Asclepias aurea Schltr. is an emetic. The root of Asclepias crispa Berg. is diuretic and a decoction of an infusion has been recommended for dropsy.
A tincture has been used for colic.
The root is said to be emetic and purgative. Asclepias decipiens N.E. Br. is used by Southern Sotho as a snuff and as a medicine for sore breasts.
