The Linaceae (Flax family) is a relatively small plant family that consists of 14 genera and 250 species, cosmopolitan (Boulos, 2000).
Some of the Hugonia species, including Hugonia castaneifolia Engl., are used as herbal remedies. Some Hugonia species yielded lignans related to the antitumour agent podophyllotoxin (Baraza et al., 2008).
