Thirteen genera in the Flora of Egypt have been transferred from the Liliaceae in the most recent classification to five families: Alliaceae (Allium), Asparagaceae (Asparagus), Asphodelaceae (Asphodeline and Asphodelus), Colchicaceae (Androcymbium and Colchicum), Hyacinthaceae (Bellevallia, Dipcadi, Leopoldia, Muscari, Ornithogalum, Scilla and Urginea) (Boulos, 2005).
The phytochemistry, folk medicine, pharmacological and biological activities of these 13 genera were described in the previous volumes of this series (vols. 1,3,4 and 9).
