Commelina benghalensis is used in the Indian subcontinent as a folk medicine for the treatment of leprosy, headache, fever, constipation, jaundice and snake bite.

The plant extracts exhibited antibacterial (Khan et al., 2011), hepatoprotective (Sambrekar et al., 2009; Sambrekar and Patil, 2013), antioxidant (Prakash et al., 2014), 15-lipoxygenase inhibitiory activity (Alaba and Chichioco-Hernandez, 2014), analgesic, anti-infammatory (Hossain et al., 2014) anticancer (Hasan et al., 2009),.
It possesses anti-neoplastic properties and induces apoptosis in JT cells (Mbazima et al., 2008; Lebogo et al., 2014).
