Leptadenia pyrotechnica is a valuable desert plant which is commonly used in traditional system of medicine for relieving pain and inflammation, as well as in a number of metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity (Singh et al., 2013).

Betulin, isolated from the plant showed moderate DNA-binding activity at IC50, 42 g/mL (Afifi et al., 2002).The alcoholic extract of Leptadenia pyrotechnica, growing in United Arab Emirates, exhibited initial contraction followed by inhibition on rabbit isolated jejunum (Tanira et al., 1996).
In vitro antioxidant activity of methanolic extracts of various parts of Leptadenia pyrotechnica (Forssk.) Decne was evaluated.
Results revealed that there was strong free-radical scavenging activity lying in both parts comparable withsynthetic antioxidant i.e. Butylated Hydroxy Anisole (BHA).
The activity was found increased in a concentration- dependent manner. Root extracts showed significant DPPH and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, whereas highest electron donating capacity was observed in aerial parts extracts (O.D. of 2.38) at a concentration of 100μg/ml (Munazir et al., 2015).
The immunostimulant potential of crude extract of the plant on the phagocytic activity was measured by the carbon clearance rate test.
The results revealed that at doses (150 mg/kg), Leptadenia pyrotechnica crude extract increased the phagocytic activity in a dose dependent manner when compared with the control and thus the clearance rate of carbon was faster after the administration of the plant extract (Tewari et al., 2014).
In vivo and in vitro comparative study of primary metabolites of Leptadenia pyrotechnia was done.
The callus and different plant parts were used for primary metabolite quantification. Maximum soluble sugars found in callus, maximum amount of starch, protein and phenolic contents were found in stem and maximum lipid found in leaf (Singh et al., 2013).
Effect of Leptadenia pyrotechnica, extracts on the reproductive organs of adult male ratsafter prolonged period of treatment was investigated and showed significant improvement of the relative weight of reproductive organs, sperm count, sperm motility and total sperm abnormality.
The extract appeared to possess fertility improvement activity in male rats due to their testosterone increasing property (Soliman et al., 2012).
