The following substances have been identified from the different aerial organs of Rhus tripartitum, collected in Tunisia: cis-polyprenol, α-tocopherol, 3β-stigmast-5-en-3-ol (Mahjoub et al., 2004; Ammar et al., 2009) and three fatty acids with C14, C16 and C18 linear sequence and shikimic acid (Ammar et al., 2004, 2009).
The flavonoids identified from the same species are myricetin, myricetin 3-O-rhamnoside, masazinoflavanone (biflavonoid) and calodenone (isobiflavonoid) (Ammar et al., 2004, 2009; Mahjoub et al., 2005).
Infusion of fruits and leaves of Rhus tripartita are recommended for gastric and intestinal ailments (Boulos, 1983).
The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of Rhus tripartitum extracts or its phenolic constituents have been reported (Ammar et al., 2009; Mahjoub et al., 2010).
