The family Amaryllidaceae is a monocotyledon which comprises about 65 genera and 750 species (Boulos, 2005), some are cultivated and are mainly ornamental, while others are wild.
A considerable number of the plants of this family are reputed for their potential toxicity, which is due to their alkaloidal content (Fahmy et al., 1960a).
