The proximate composition, as well as carbohydrates, amino acids and fatty acids of Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum, growing in Egypt are shown in Tables 2-7.
Phytochemical screening of the plant, growing in Qatar, revealed the presence of alkaloids and sterols (Rizk et al., 1986).
The phytochemical evaluation of Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum, growing in Egypt is mentioned above (El-Tantawy et al., 2004).
The plant contains high concentration of soluble oxalate (18% of dry weight) (Jacob and Peet, 1989).
An increase in oxalate concentration in Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum, growing in Australia during the summer-autumn period has been reported, which probably accounts for the temporal pattern of acute oxalate toxicity in grazing animals (Jacob et al., 1994).
