Several aliphatic hydrocarbons, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, volatile compounds, phenolic compounds, peltogynoids, flavonoids, phytosterols, terpenes, carbohydrates, and betalains were isolated from Bougainvillea species (Abarca- Vargas and Petricevich, 2018). The following compounds were isolated from the stem bark of Bougainvillea spectabilis: eight peltogynoids, bougainvinones A-H (1-8) (Do et al., 2016), five flavones, bougainvinones I-M (9-13), as well as three congeners, 2′- hydroxydemethoxymatteucinol (14), 5,7,3′,4′-tetrahydroxy-3-methoxy-6,8- dimethylflavone (15), and 5,7,4′-trihydroxy-3-methoxy-6,8-dimethylflavone (16) (Do et al., 2018). Several other flavonoids were isolated from Bougainvillea spectabilis e.g., quercetin and quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, from the stem bark (Jawla et al., 2013).

Mirabilis jalapa L. (Four o’clock plant) is used in the treatment of a variety of human ailments like skin diseases, cathartic, purgative, stomachic, tonic, anti-dysenteric, antiparasitic, wound healing properties, digestive, stimulant etc. (Saha et al., 2020). The potent antihyperglycemic activity of Bougainvillea spectabilis leaf, root and bark extracts have been reported (Jawla et al., 2013).

A number of pharmacological activities are reported for Mirabilis jalapa like antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antispasmodic, antinociceptive, antiviral, diuretic, anthelmintic and urinary tract disorder (Saha et al., 2020).
Bougainvillea alba cultivated in Egypt exhibited cytotoxic effect (Ghareeb et al., 2015). It also showed antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties (Ogunwande et al., 2019).
Guapira graciliflora contains allelochemicals in the leaves and fruits that affect the growth of the initial structures of Cenchrus echinatus and Calotropis procera, with potential to be used as bioherbicides in the control of these weeds (Rodrigues et al., 2020).
