Convolvulaceae (incl. Cuscutaceae), the morning glory family of flowering plants, which includes some 56 genera and about 1600 species, widely cultivated for their coloured funnel-sheped flowers (Boulos, 2002).
Most are twining and erect herbs, with a few woody vines, trees and shrubs. The family is widespread in both tropical and temperate areas.
The sweet botato (Ipomoea batatas) is the most economic plant of the family.

The leaves and tuberous roots of some species are used as foodstuffs, and the seeds are exploited for their medicinal value as purgatives.
Some species contain ergoline alkaloids that are likely responsible for the use of these species as ingredients in psychedelic drugs.
The family is a rich source of bioactive compounds such as polyketides, terpenoids, steroids, flavonoids, coumarins, alkaloids, cyanogenic glycosides, and other compounds (Luciardi et al., 2016)….
