description
The family Caryophyllaceae (the pink family or carnation family) comprised 87 genera and 2,200 species of herbaceous annuals and perennials, especially in temperate and warm northern (Boulos, 1999).
The compounds isolated from several species of the family Caryophyllaceae include cyclopeptides, saponins, ecdysteroids, flavonoids, alkaloids, diterpenoids, etc. Cyclopeptides, saponins, ecdysteroids and flavonoids are present widely as characteristic components of Caryophyllaceae, and five-ringed triterpenoid saponins and cyclopeptides have distinct distribution significance of the family (Jia et al., 2004).

- Acanthophyllum knorringianum: The pectin, isolated from the roots, had immunostimulating activity (Kurbanova et al., 2002).
- Acanthophyllum squarrosum: Squarroside A (a saponin), isolated from the roots showed immunomodulatory effect (Lacaille-Dubois et al., 1993).
- Agrostemma githago: The plant is toxic for both human and animals (Bohlooli and Fathi, 2015).
The ethanolic extract showed potent hypocholesterolaemic activity (Avcı et al., 2006). The liposomal form of the seed aqueous extract exerted cytotoxic effect (Bohlooli and Fathi, 2015)…
