Soluble and total oxalate (as % oxalic acid on moisture-free basis) in the pasture plant Alternanthera nodiflora, growing in Queensland were reported as follows 0.6-1.3 and 2.5-3.7 (Mathams and Sutherland, 1952).
Of the grasses studied by Obara et al. (1974) for poultry feed, protein was highest in Alternanthera nodiflora and Panicum farelatum (3.46-3.55 % fresh weight).
The decoction of a polyherbal Chinese medicine (comprising Alternanthera nodiflora) can be used for treating jaundice and has a good curative effect (Deng, 2011c).
