The flavonoid and terpenoid constituents of only few Aerva species have been studied.
Kaempferol glycosides were identified in some Aerva species (Aiyar et al., 1973; Bishay et al., 1977).
Glycinebetaine was identified in Aerva japonica (Burm. f) Juss. ex Schult. (Blunden et al., 1999).
Aerva species are used in folk medicine to cure lithasis, dropsical affections, eye affections, toothache and disorders of abdomen and inflammation of the internal organs (Usmanghani et al., 1982a,b; Rizk and El-Ghazaly, 1995).
