Aizoon canariense, growing in Qatar, contains lipids 1.14%, ash 17.20%, protein 9.7% and crude fiber 15.37% (Al-Easa et al., 2003).
The plant contains the following amino acids: arginine 0.46%, histidine 0.15%, isoleucine 0.25%, leucine 0.54%, lysine 0.34%, methionine 0.12%, phenylalanine 0.34%, threonine 0.32%, valine 0.36%, aspartic acid 0.75%, serine 0.39%, glutamic acid 0.11%, proline 0.46%, glycine 0.57%, alanine 0.45%, cystine 0.12% and tryptophan 0.28%.
The mineral composition of the plant is as follows: Na 0.597%, Zn 0.012%, Fe 0.382%, Ni 0.011%, Mn 0.143%, Al 0.031%, Co 0.32%, Cu 0.008%, Mg 1.02%, Si 7.28% and Cr. 0.21% (Al-Easa et al., 2003).
The unsaponifiable matter of the lipids consisted of sterols 10.67%, hydrocarbons 66.01%, aliphatic alcohols 19.76% and triterpene alcohols 3.5%. Analysis of the hydrocarbon fraction revealed the presence of C23:0 7.78%, C24:0 10.78%, C25:0 13.17%, C26:0 15.57%, C27:0 17.96%, C29:0 17.96%, C31:0 5.99% and others 10.78%.
The aliphatic alcohol fraction consisted of C21:0 4.00%, C22:0 20.00, C24:0 20.00%, C26:0 16.00% and C28:0 40.00%.
The sterol fraction contained β-sitosterol 66.67% and stigmasterol 33.33% (Al-Easa et al., 2002).
The phytochemical screening of the plant revealed the presence of coumarins and saponins (Rizk et al., 1986 ).

The plant exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities (Mohammed et al., 2012).
